The closes anyone has come to actually answering the question is WhyNot, who applied demonstrable knowledge from a related field to make a good first approximation at an answer. To find out if his supposition is correct, it would need to be tested, of course.

Most of you are talking out of your hats, having apparently little understanding even of what makes the coffee coffee (in detail, I mean, not the general concept). Without knowing a) what’s in the liquid that makes it have what I consider a “strong” or “weak” flavor?, and b) how does it get in there, and what variables can affect it? you cannot possibly answer the question asked in the OP.
