2 days in Rome

I bought one if those for my trip to Italy in the spring. I found it really uncomfortable under my shirt, and it doesn’t feel terribly secure hanging loose. I kept my passport in my friend’s house or in a breast pocket.

Having just lost my wallet in Spain, I’m really glad i left my passport in my hotel room. I still have that. Is there a problem with passports walking away from hotel rooms in Italy?

You will need very little cash. Almost everything can be paid for on a tap-and-go card or with your phone.

Be sure to have two credit sources from different providers so that you still have the other if one has to be stopped.

You won’t need to carry a passport. Leave it in the hotel safe. I know they are not very secure, but better than a purse or back pocket.

Keep your phone out of sight unless you are using it.

Seriously consider an organized tour.

Legally you need to carry your passport with you in Italy. You might get by with a photo on your phone if you get stopped, but you might get a Cabinari who isn’t so pleased with that.

Really? We never did, but we also never ran into the police.

Except when I was driving south of Naples, then I got pulled over (for no obvious reason). They spent some time looking at my MA drivers license and just waved us on, but I don’t think they every checked my passport.

Ooh, Alfredo alla Scrofa has reservations available! Woot!
Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank Max Miller. He taught me about it.

Yep. You always to have your Federal ID on you. For US citizens, that is their passport.

I just shoved mine in my tote bag. Frankly, it would have taken a fully funded National Geographic expedition for a pickpocket to find it underneath all the stuff in the tote bag.

I mean, I took precautions: the tote bag was kept zipped with my hand on the zipper. it was in front of me. I never let it hang on the back of my chair while eating. In heavy crowds I just held it.
