How can I get hundreds of dollars worth of US 2-dollar bills? It would be particularly cool to get those nice mint-fresh ones with sequential serial numbers. ---

Your bank can get you the notes. I don’t know about the numbers though. ---

Call your credit union or bank to find out what day they get their shipments of currency. When I go into my CU for $2 bills, they are for the most part new and sequential. ---

Get to be buddy-buddy with a teller at your bank. Tell them what you’re looking for and give them your telephone number. More often then not they’ll keep an eye out for the items and give you a call when it comes in. It also helps if you ask them everytime you go in. That’s how I got a bag of 50 Ike coins - complete with a free bank bag. I’ve got a couple hundred $2 bills. Several are from the 1950’s with red ink. One is from 1976 with a postmark and stamp on the day of issue. All came from the bank. I just kept bugging them. ---

I think you can pretty much walk into any bank and ask for them. (Just don’t use a note!) I had my wife bring me home a band of them, which was either $100 or $200…I forget. But it wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be spending them. It just felt goofy, especially when I counted out several at a time. I felt like a clown with his own currency. Good luck. ---

(bolding mine) Just remeber if you try to spend several 2-dollar bills with sequential serial numbers in the same store you risk being accused of counterfiting. It happend at “Best” Buy. ---

Mr. Sin used to get bunches of two dollar bills at Christmas time. He would take them to Kinko’s with bill size pieces of decorated cardboard and have them bound together with that hot glue stuff into little booklets of money. The kidlets (who got the booklets as stocking stuffers) got strange looks when they pulled the money out to pay for stuff, but no one ever accused them of counterfiting 🆒 ---

Update: I called my local BofA branch, they said they had none, but then the manager called me back, and they’ve ordered $400 worth for me. How silly I end up feeling spending them remains to be seen. ---

On my way to work I always stop and get coffee and a newspaper, two dollar bills are perfect. There are 8 different places I could stop, I had a blast spreading a stack around over a few weeks. I had more than one teenage clerk who had never seen one before. ---

The ones with the red serial number and Treasury seal are “United States Notes”, direct descendants of the “Greenbacks” first issued by Abraham Lincoln’s government to finance the Civil War. I used to ask for $2 bills at my bank when I was in college in the late 1970s, and I often used to get the red-seal ones from the 1950s, and they were usually brand new. A few years ago I got an old $20 from the 1950s; it was a Federal Reserve Note just like today’s money, except that it still carried a “Promise to Pay” clause below the portrait. ---

Oddly enough, [eBay](http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=2+dollar+bill+strap&category0=) has plenty of $2 ‘straps’.
