Reminds me of when I worked in a pet store and people would come in and ask for advice on their dogs’ health problems. Skin problems, digestion, etc. First question is always: what are you feeding him? “Oh, he’ll only eat lobster salad” or whatever. And I’m like, “Really. Where does he get it? Does he bark the credit card number into the phone–arf arf for 2, arf arf arf for 3, etc.–or does he punch it in on the number pad with his paw?” ---

My late husband’s parents thought it was hilarious, just HILARIOUS, to put cigarettes in his mouth at that age (I guess I should call him my early husband, instead). He was smoking on his own in the single digits, an addict by early double digits, and a four-pack-a-day smoker for over 20 years. ---

A few years ago I knew a guy whose young son (I am not sure of his age, maybe about 5 or 6) would seek out and _eat_ cigarette butts from ashtrays, the ground, or the like. He kept turning up with his face smeared with ash. It seemed like his parents had given up trying to stop him ---

We suggested they feed the dog some dog food but they insisted the dog wouldn’t eat anything else. I once asked if the damned thing was driving itself to the grocery store but apparently they didn’t like that question. The dog later solved the problem by dying at age 5. ---
