20 Good Years 10/11

ok - now that all 3 threads are merged - just quickly: yea (I can’t be the only one) or nay?

YEA.

I actually have become very concerned. I used to laugh at people who are bothered by laugh tracks. They never bothered me. But I couldn’t watch this show because of the laugh track. I had to turn it off. Have I lost my ability to be subtly prompted to laughter by the laugh track or were the sound engineers of this show just incompetent?

My vote is for incompetent. I’ll watch one more time, to see if there is any improvement. But that’s it…if that annoyingly loud, ill-timed, out of proportion laugh track is still there, I’m done.

I haven’t read any reviews of the show elsewhere…does the print media think it stinks, too?

This is about how well the laugh track was placed in this show.

I’ll weigh in with an “Eh…” So far…

I agree with many of the already expressed sentiments. The laugh track was horrid. Lithgow and Tambor are great actors, but this just seems below their talents. I agree that the bit about the British accent was a funny moment. But so many of the “jokes” were just lame.

Completely. Tambor was brilliant in Arrested Development, and his character here just doesn’t seem to have much… character. At least not yet.

And I also got the “trying too hard” vibe. Lithgow was delivering his lines with much the same feel and bluster of his character from Third Rock From the Sun. And while that overblown, frequently self-absorbed-yet-often-clueless personality fits his 3rd Rock character perfectly (“Look at me…! I’m GORgeous!!”)… it just didn’t quite ring true to me here. It’s not the same character, and this one has less reason to be that over the top.

It might have potential, if they quit firing up the old laugh track over every other sentence, and if they get a little more chemistry going between the two leads. The supporting characters? eh… felt like a waste. One guy’s daughter and the other guy’s son. They were boring and uninteresting.
