20 years later, Joel Schumacher apologizes for Batman & Robin

I agree with the point being here. Continuity with some other media is not important if it creates problems that need to be solved or prevent new story elements.

Bumped.

GC seems to have learned his lesson: George Clooney says there are not 'enough drugs in the world' to get him to play Batman again

In my opinion, Clooney was the least bad part of the movie. The problem was not Clooney. The problem was that Schumacher was trying to re-make the Adam West TV show, while the rest of us wanted the film noir style of the comic books.

I’ve never seen it, but let’s be fair, it couldn’t possibly have been as bad as Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. I mean, I’ve seen better special effects than that from contemporaneous school-camp productions, and that was the good part of that movie.

Yes, I am! As all good citizens of Gotham should be.

Every writer who gets the honor of writing a Batman movie, every director, producer, gaffer or “Best Boy”, should be so aware of what a privilege they’ve been given.

As I said when I saw how boring my kid’s Chemistry class was: “This should be cool! You’re dealing with stuff that’s amazing, and if it’s not, it’s because someone’s actively working to wring all the life out of it.”

You are correct. Superman IV was far worse than any Schumacher Batman film.

I think anyone who’s seen it would agree it is an EPICALLY bad movie. As large budget professional productions go it’s right down there with Battlefield Earth and Highlander II. It’s just odd to be upset by it.

I wish to be excluded from this iteration of “the rest of us.” I’ll go further and declare that the discovery that Schumacher was trying to recreate an Adam West-style of Batman movie may just incline me to seek it out for a viewing.

No, no! Flee while you still can!

There is none of the charm of the Batman TV show. That was only one person’s opinion, the rest of us say it was the director and producers and scriptwriters just not caring.

I don’t fault the actors… so, if you want to see Clooney, O’Donnell, and Silverstone having fun as a Bat-team; and Thurman and Schwarzenegger hamming it up as villains, go ahead and watch…

Oh.

Well, thanks for looking out, then.
