Seriously? We’ll spend $20 million a day for months on a multinational search for a plane that probably went down by accident, but 234 girls taken by known militants/terrorists aren’t even worth the local government’s effort? And, for that matter, it isn’t important enough for the major news broadcasters to cover? Heaven forbid that something like this should prompt them to skip a five-minute segment explaining, yet again, how a flight data recorder works. ---

Well, based on prior situations where they have taken female captives… The good news is that the girls are probably still alive… because these jackholes want “wives”. That’s the bad news. Most likely, they’ll be kept for both domestic chores (cooking, cleaning, etc.) and, shall we say, “sexual services” (I will not dignify that slavery with “marriage” or “wife” even if that’s what the jackholes call it). It’s ugly, abusive, exploitative, and they’ll wind up pregnant and with kids after a couple years but other women have survived the captivity. ---

I’d read today that the kidnappings are believed to be explicitly to prevent women’s education; and then I saw a reference to the Vox guy, and I sorta’ conflated the two. ---

Boys will be boys. The crazy part is in their minds they _know_ they’re the good guys. These spiteful troglodytes think they’re saving their culture, or doing god’s work, or some other insanity. You know your cause is just when the enemy is schoolgirls. Can you imagine waking up, getting dressed, and thinking oh yeah, today is when we load up those kids on the trucks and hide them in the woods. At least with terrorism and general warfare the psychology is obvious. Hit the fuckers who hit you, or hurt their loved ones, you know, revenge. But throwing acid in girls’ faces, stoning the sluts, FGM, grotesque shit like that, the fuck did they do to you? This applies to the desperately poor and oppressed for both sexes in general, but in the abstract sense it’s also just a completely pointless waste of human potential. How many great minds in these women hating countries are flushed down the toilet for no reason? Like they don’t need the help. Really hard to finish a race when you cut one of your legs off. ---

Apparently “Boko Haram” quite literally means “Western Education is forbidden” so its no surprise why a school was targeted. Sadly, [they do this a lot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boko_Haram#Beginning_of_violence), their attacks are often deadly too. ---
