So, you mechanic-types, here’s my deal:

My ABS doesn’t seem to be working. We have had a lot of ice and snow up here, and if I stomp on my brakes, I can get them to completely lock up, and no “pumping” occurs in the pedal. Is it possible my ABS is disabled? How can I verify if it has been disabled? Would the ABS light come on when the ABS is activated in a hard stop/skid?

I suspect it may be disabled because way back in mid-2000, about 6 months after I bought the pickup, the ABS light came on and stayed on. I took it to the dealer, and a couple of hours later they indicated it was “fixed.” I took it home and never looked back, but since then, I don’t recall that my ABS has ever worked. Is it possible the dealer simply disabled the ABS, and didn’t actually fix it?

Thanks!

I’m going to bump this just once, on the off chance our mechanical-types were doing other things over the weekend…
