Has there been a single goal scored off a free kick in this tournament? At first I was scoffing at the complaints about the ball, but now I am convinced that the ball is a problem. ---

Commentator was saying that they’ve been using the ball for a while now and really have a handle on it. FIFA have admitted that there may be some problems with the ball. A friend of mine, who does South American (and especially Brazilian) history for a living, and spends quite a lot of time down there, recently told me this joke that she says is quite common in Brazil: Q. How does an Argentinian commit suicide? A. Climbs on top of his ego and jumps. ---

Strangely I see no trace of that feeling in various MB I frequent from other Latin American countries this time around. As for cheering and all that about brazil, I think it was a bad idea, I’m happy they lost (as any fan of the Red Sox, for example would be happy if the Yankees lose), but cheering and so on seems crass.
