The announcers on British TV are now discussing the referee’s track record in earlier tournaments, which is never a good sign. Very harsh decision. I can only think that it looked like a leg-breaking tackle from his angle. ---

And the 4th TWO MINUTES later! Cacau, who had just come in for Klose after the 3rd German goal, scores. Jeez… This is tremendous. Germany has totally steamrolled over Australia in this game. ---

I have been hearing that this German team has quite a bit of flair and they certainly have shown it. They could easily have been 5-0 up by now and this kind of dominating performance surely makes them a leading candidate to go all the way. ---

This day could not have gone worse for the Serbs. Losing basically means that they need an Australian win against Ghana or an absolute miracle of their own against the Germans, and now the Socceroos will be without Cahill against Ghana while they’ve lost their central defender against the Germans. ---

Yeah they played some very attractive football today and in fact weren’t particularly efficient in the sense of converting all their easy chances. They could easily have been 4-0 up in just the first half. ---

Like really really bad. The US beat them 3-1 and really should have put in 6. If Germany was clinical in front of the net this could’ve been double digits. Most people had North Korea or New Zealand as most likely to let in the most goals. I think it’ll be Australia. ---

While it’s nice to have more American voices in a World Cup thread, I have to say that I’m really struggling with the singular vs. plural thing. Such as “Australia is bad”. That just sounds horribly ungrammatical to me. “Australia ARE bad”. ARE. Although, I’m quite enjoying saying that, so maybe this singular thing will grow on me. Australia IS bad. IT stinks. Australia IS hopeless at football. Australia couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo (OK, that one works both ways, but I just like saying it). ---
