If the Paraguay goal was offside, this one was too.
I agree. I was only responding/defending the questioning of the post I made at the time of the goal.
So, older balls were worse. Which is what I thought–not that I’ve tried them myself, but complaints that there have been more wild kicks this years don’t jive with my memory of past events.
Also, clearly some teams have done well with the ball; I’m thinking of a pair of splendid free kicks from Japan in particular.
Del Bosque finally listens. Breaking:
Starting eleven: Casillas; Sergio Ramos, Puyol, Piqué, Capdevila; Xabi Alonso, Busquets; Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro y Villa
I do believe with that move – which practically everyone had been clamoring for – things just might have gotten a bit more complicated for Germany.
Win or lose, I feel good. Because we’re going out with one of our best possible line-ups. Finally!
Some moron just ran onto the field and had to be dragged off by security.
Yikes! Germany’s just getting killed on possession. I hate to see a strategy as boring as Spain’s working.
Boring? Attacking constantly is boring football, now?
Yeah, Spain’s attack is looking very nice. Germany’s last line of defense has been good, but Spain is doing nicely at getting the ball into the attacking zone.
Some very nice chances there. Good save from the German keeper.
Spain piling up the pressure. Something’s got to give soon, one would think, on either side.
In the first half, they were getting it in, yes. They weren’t doing much with it, though. To my undereducated eyes, it was pretty dull.
ETA: I am not liking how Germany looks right now.
Nice header! 1-0
Have to say that Spain deserve to have the lead.
1-0, 1-0…another 1-0 for Spain?
Wow, taking David Villa off.
His legs did look a little tired during his last attacking run, but i’m still not sure i’d be replacing him.
I really hope Spain don’t win the Cup. They’re soooooooooooooooo boring. Yes they get the job done, but it’s not pretty.
Congratulations Spain.
Thoroughly deserved the win.
Hey Paul the Octopus, who’s going to win the third-place game?
Paul: sizzle
The most attractively playing side will not be in the final, and the Dutch are denied a great grudgematch. On the other hand, I like Holland’s chances against Spain better than against the Germans.
People really think Spain has a boring game? From where I’m standing, they moved the ball beautifully almost the entire match.
I’m pretty sure that the Netherlands’ grudges against Spain go back way further than their grudges against Germany. ![]()
