2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

Again the laws of the game leave this up to the referee to decide, the wording is simply “unsporting behavior” which is about as vague as you can get. Referees are like legal judges, it would be nice if they all ruled the same way in all cases but it doesn’t work like that, some are strict and some are lenient.

Just send me you Kontonummer and Banbkleitzahl.

Oh well, no use crying over spilt milk. Now… Go USA!!!

I remember that game very well - but I don’t think it’s quite comparable. After the game Ivanov was scalded and I seem to recall Blatter saying that it was him who should have gotten a yellow card. I don’t expect such a reprimand for this game nor do I think it would be deserved.

Anyway, water under the bridge: on to Slovenia - USA. One thing: Onyewu needs a facial hair adjustment badly!

ETA: and Dempsey deserves a booking for that elbow!

Leading with the elbow like that is usually a red card offence. I don’t think the ref saw it though as he initially gave the freekick to USA before realising his mistake. That could really have shaken things up if he sent him off so quickly!

Well, the US is now in deep trouble. That’s why they play the games.

Great goal.

Come on the USA. Get back into it.

Pardon the interruption, but could someone clear up a couple things?

1- Am I correct that 2 Yellows in one game = 1 Red and you’re ejected?

2- Does a Yellow card in one game get carried to the next? In other words, YC in game 1, + YC in game 2 = ejection?

3- When do yellow cards get purged from your record? In other words, YC in game 1 + YC in game 3 is not cause for ejection?

You need two yellows in any game to be ejected.

The next game you also need two to be ejected.
**
However** if you get 1 yellow in 1 game and a yellow in the next ( or just two yellows in one game) you are not allowed play in the next game.

If you get a red you also are also not allowed play in the next game.
AFAIK all cards are wiped after the first round and playing start the next round with a clean slate.

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. There is a cumulative effect for yellow cards over the course of a competition (usually 3 or 5 cards will get you a suspension from the next match but you finish the current match), the slate gets wiped clean part way through. For example, in the World Cup the yellow cards get wiped from the record after the quarter finals.

any 2 yellows in the group stage mean a one match suspension. If this is during one match then you miss the remainder of that match also.

Cards reset for the 1/4 finals onwards

Note, however, that if you get a suspension, your team will still play with the full number of players on the field - it’s just that you yourself will not be allowed to play for that game.

And now Findley gets jobbed. Did someone drug the water in the Referees’ locker room this morning?

…and the US is pretty much finished unless they can put a few away, which won’t happen as long as a face is considered a hand.

Ooooo - what a beauty!

What’s wrong with the American backs?

Be glad that you’re not dealing with Alberto Undiano Mallenco. Good game so far, very entertaining.

Oh, and I forgot something important: Congratulations to Serbia!

This is the US team I expected to see.

Shocking scoreline. The US back line, which looked shaken but not stirred against England, looks totally lost.

And I’m sure England supporters are going to be very silent right now. Are Slovenia really that good, or is the US really that bad?

THAT was a goal. How the hell did he make that angle?

DONOVAN!

Right back in it, US!

USA are that bad - a couple of their players (e.g. Torres) look totally out of place at this level.

England reverted to long balls forward which are easy for any team to deal with… against a side that hold on to possession, USA don’t have the ability to regain control.

If England get a decent result against Algeria tonight I (and assuming the Yanks beat Algeria too) it’ll mean we need a draw or win against Slovenia in the final game to progress, whereas USA have to hope England lose.

Interesting stuff through, especially considering that Slovenia have fewer than 2m people in their whole country to pick a team from!
