2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

It’s incredible. I mean it’s usually the Dutch who implode, but not on this scale.

2-0 RSA. And an offside third.

I’m in the enjoyable position of both seeing France lose (no offense) and South Africa win - even if the other group match means RSA don’t go through, beating France is a pretty damn good consolation prize for the hosts.

Glimmer of hope for South Africa. If they can score one more goal, a 1-0 win for Uruguay over Mexico would be enough to put them through on goals scored (I think).

They need to make up goal differential first. So SA really needs 4 goals plus a 1-0 Uruguay win, or 3 goals and a 2-0 Uruguay win, etc.

Uruguay’s up 1-0, so the possibility is there.

South Africa are at -1 now and Mexico are at +1 so South Africa and/or Uruguay need to score at least two more goals. But if Uruguay score twice more, than South Africa and Mexico have the exact same goal differential. I don’t know what happens then - but I think Mexico might go through in that case because they beat South Africa earlier.

Yes, I mis-read South Africa’s goal difference.

I’m pretty sure South Africa would go through on goals scored, which takes precedence over head-to-head record.

Come on SA.

Stick it to the French for us
It would be great to see SA get into the next round.

Go South Africa!, Go Uruguay!

I think he meant to say if the scores are such that the goal difference is exactly the same (so also the amount of goals scored). But he is still wrong since Mexico and South Africa drew their game. if this happens lots will be drawn…

…which is shame, because you don’t have to resort to lots so quickly. There is another logical and fair tiebreaker they could apply first.

That’s probably going to do it for South Africa. At this point they need an aggregate 3 goals from themselves and Uruguay with less than 20 minutes in each game.

France scores, 1 -2 :(.

It was nice thinking about Argentina playing RSA in the next match, oh well, Mexico it is.

Damn :frowning:

Not all the French, please. This is not my team, no fucking way. I’m glad that those overpayed, underage-prostitute-banging bastards are out.

Mexico is still probably having nightmares about this.

Well, we saved face before going out. Win!

And the French manager refuses to shake hands with the South African manager. What an arse.

Can’t go to youtube at work, is that the Maxi Rodriguez goal from the last WC?,

People here at work are saying “Mexico again?, booooring” :P.

Except the one Mexican co-worker who was sweating bullets all morning.

I was tempted not to tell him of the French goal and let him suffer a bit more (he was glued to the TV and I was checking the net, so he didnt know about it).

In the end I decided to get some good karma and told him.

I meant the team. I feel for the French supporters having to have that shower representing you.

It is, and amazingly it was just the second best Argentine goal at that WC (the second against Serbia was an all-timer).
