2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

We need the Brooklyn Dodgers’ old Sym-phony to play “Three Blind Mice” at the refs. Sheesh. What did America ever do to Belgium?

Go England! One of the few benefits of being laid off is being able to switch betweem ESPN and ESPN2 all morning.

OMFG, the BBC iPlayer must be swamped by people at work trying to watch the match. The damn thing just won’t load for me. The text commentary at the side makes it sound like the best match England have played in literally forever.

I think that’s pushing it but at least they are trying for once!! Pretty positive stuff so far I just hope we carry it on in the second half and don’t try sit on the lead.

It’s working for me, albeit stuttering a bit at times. I’ve actually just switched to the USA match as I can see a distant TV screen here at work for the England one.

That’s assuming they can finish, rather than blasting over the net from a few yards out. They’re definitely looking pretty good in attack, though.

If i were Algeria’s coach, i’d be telling them at half time to be a bit more patient with their build-up. They pass very nicely, but right now they’re squandering their good lead-up work with speculative shots from well outside the penalty area. You can sometimes score from out there with a good blast and/or a bit of luck, but i think they’d be better served by getting some men in the box and moving the ball around a bit more.

No commentary but the feed is solid. It’s what I using when the RTE feed goes down.

I’d really like the Yanks and the English to get out of this group.

Come on the US!

Well, shit. They have to try something, because they get the point-blank goals called back. It’s not that they can’t finish, it’s that the refs are finishing it for them.

Thanks for the link. Doesn’t work, though, as it blocks you if they detect you’re in the UK. Trying through a proxy on the Continent doesn’t work, either.

I only saw a replay quickly online, but it looked like Altidore was actually offside just before he blasted that shot over the top. Ironically, of course, no flag…

Kicking the ball in the net is always better than missing, regardless of how hard done by you may feel.

Strange. This is from a link on the RTE site that says it should work from anywhere in Europe. It’s for Irish people who can’t watch the RTE feed as they’re not in Ireland.

Not sure why Bornstein’s in—he’ll cost the U.S. one goal this 2nd half. Would much rather see Goodson or (shudder) Spector.

Looking forward to seeing Buddle come on for Altidore sometime soon. Be nice if Jozy could pull his head out of his ass once in awhile. That said, I blame Altidore and Donovan equally for that space launch of a shot; they need to talk to each other more.

Lots of action, it’s exciting to watch. Getting tired of losing the benefit of the doubt on close/inexplicable calls.

(Would love to see the offsides rule changed to one similar to that used in hockey, e.g: the ball has to cross the (30? 36? 40?) meter line before any of you, or it’s a change of possession. That rule would still prevent striker camping, be a lot easier to enforce, banish the offsides trap to the 7th bolgia where it belongs, and make for much more flowing offensive action. All IMHO of course.)

Looking forward to the 2nd halves of both matches. GO USA!

Would clearing the cache/cookies help?

It’s working OK for me. We had a brilliant 10 minutes around the goal, but there have been a few sloppy mistakes, and Slovenia could still nick something on the break. We could do with a 2nd.

The US, at least offensively, looked like a well-oiled machine in the 1st half. It would be a shame if they didn’t make it through. I just hope that they don’t give up a cheapie early in the 2nd half. Their defense, while playing better, still looks quite shaky to me.

Johnson booked for being fouled. Funny old game.

Actually looking at the site closer it gives a list of countries the feed is available in. The UK isn’t one of them. So that explains it.

Wow! He really should have buried that one.

Great save by the Slovenian keeper, England could be walking away with this but he is keeping them in it.
