2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

I was referring to Campbell’s disallowed goal against Argentina in 1998.

So all scoreless at the half, as apparently all four teams are waiting to see how that one Wimbledon match turns out.

How exactly would you like us to respond? “Boy it sure was awesome that the refs disallowed 2 goals, either of which would have sent us through but, because of the calls, made us within 2 minutes of elimination and practically gave us a heart attack”?

We were rooting for our team and got boned over by multiple bad calls. Any fan would have responded in similar fashion.

We really should have 6 points, with England winning the group. (Lost to England when Green makes the routine save, beat Slovenia and Algeria by virtue of the two disaloowed goals.) Close enough.

Jesus, man, dial back the sanctimony a bit. You’re talking about an hour after the game. Don’t we even get an hour, your highness? Ximenean got to bitch for days:

As it stands, England would face Ghana in the next round, and USA against Germany. If that were the case, every Englishman would be an honorary Yank for 90 minutes at least

Or there are Irishmen who are willing to cheer for a Donovan, no matter which uniform he’s wearing.

I spoke too soon. Germany score, and now the old grudge match is on the cards…

As i’ve already made clear, i’ve got no problem with some bitching over the calls. It’s the conspiracy theory stuff, the “They hate us because we’re American” shit, that i’m most annoyed about.

Anyway, whatever. Cry it up. I’ll keep cheering for the American team in the next round, even if their fans make it a somewhat bitter pill.

Eta: Nevermind, Colophon just answered my questions

I believe only one fan here made those two idiotic calls into a Conspiracy.

Winning our Group is the best revenge!

Goal! Australia 1 Serbia 0.

How does this affect things?, Germany and Ghana to the next round?

Right, like I said, those are a vocal minority, conspiracy buffs who think everything is a conspiracy. They’re doing what they do, because the ingredients are there. If, for example, the 2002 world cup had American referees wrongly overturning French goals to send them home amidst the ridiculous Freedom Fries anti France rhetoric, some vocal French fans would be sure to point out that coincidence. Whatever, its not the majority.

I tend to agree with others. The bad call today was simply a bad call. It was not comparable to the cornholing that we took last Friday.

But, again, how do you call offsides on something that close? With benefit of replay, we can see it was a bad call, but even at full speed, why call offsides unless you see it definitively?

Yeah, Australia needs to either score a few more or have Germany score a few more to make up for the goal differential from that first game against Germany.

Another Australian Goal 2-0

Two more (or two more by Germany) and they’re in!

One more from Germany and one more from Australia would also do it, I think!

Or two by Ghana, for that matter. If Ghana beats Germany and Australia wins, Ghana and Australia go through.

Go the Aussies! I held out no hope of them progressing, and it’s still a long shot, but things have improved in the last 10 minutes or so.

And Serbia scores… Things are becoming more problematic for Australia!

Followed shortly afterwards by a cancelled goal for Serbia due to off-side.

The Serbians are going all out…

Yeah, that’s basically killed it for them now. Still, no-one to blame but themselves after the 4-0 loss to Germany, and the draw against Ghana.

I was far more disappointed in 2006, when they were knocked out by a last-minute penalty against Italy.
