2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

That’s one everyone thought Oz had a right to bitch about as well. Freakin’ Italian pizza-eating dive monkeys!

He was in an offside position, but not committing an offside offence (being involved in the play or hampering the other side’s play - for example, interfering with a player’s sight of the ball).

I am going to miss the USA-Ghana game…GRRRRRRRR.

Me too. I’ll be on the road, somewhere between St. Louis and Columbus.

Hopefully I can find a hotel with free wi-fi and catch a replay online.

Well, just tune into one of the many radio stations that are sure to be broadcasting it!
Oh wait.

ESPN Radio has been covering the games, though I live in a more football friendly part of the US I admit.

YES!! Go Germany!
And good job Australia, for keeping at least one African team in.

I’m looking forward to Sunday, I’m quite confident about the England match

A question for you and Maserschmidt (who I am assuming is also a Germany fan), are matches against England a big deal in Germany? In England it is safe to say we get pretty worked up about playing Germany in a derby-esque manner but on the UK TV program Q.I. it was suggested that Germany don’t see playing England as a bigger deal than any other team and in fact treat matches against Holland as being ‘must win’.

I’m German, and I have seen that Q.I. episode. I disagree with them. While there is a huge rivalry with Holland, most Germans I know consider England to be Germany’s biggest rival. And everybody remembers the 1966 Wembley-“Goal”.

I managed to go through the day without hearing the result until I got home and watched it. That was intense. I felt physically ill through most of the second half of the US game. Holy hell do I love this game.

How is this possible? You must live in a desert.

Not every England fan hates Germany, no matter how much we have it drummed into us that we should. Germany, or West Germany, have always been my second team, because they were so good in the first World Cup that I remember watching (Paul Breitner et al, scoring goals from preposterous distances). People who say they’re “efficient” and “organised” know nothing of football.

Didn’t turn on the radio, didn’t use the internet, only work with like 10 people, half of which were out of the office, and none of them really care about soccer.

I always like to read the other countries’ own newspapers’ take on the results. Die Welt said the win over Ghana has set up a match with the “archrival” England, although that word (“Erzrival”) has been taken out since I read it…

I did this too. Got in my car to leave work and first thing I hear on the radio, “And from South Africa the…” Luckily I slapped the off button just in time. It made for a long day but it was worth it.

Does anybody else think maybe there was a mix up somewhere and the air tanks for inflating the balls were accidentally replaced with helium? With all the rising balls I keep searching the crowd for kids dragging balloons across the ground behind them. Anyway, stolen point aside (grrr) it was one hell of a game. I hope there aren’t anymore down to the wire like that, I just can’t take it.

Also, thanks England for not making us play Germany. I’ll be rooting for you guys.

je…

je JE JE JE JUA JUA JUA MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
From now on alll games will be like that one, and just wait till you get penalty kicks :stuck_out_tongue:

I know I’m insanely biased, but… Germany sure does play beautiful football.

I was crazy busy at work, couldn’t stop to even google world cup anything and was in several meetings as well (presentations, no time for chat), so I also didn’t hear about it. AND there was no update on the news (even on NPR)–I heard about the Sox and the Cubs, but no WC. My car radio bounced between the impending storm and the pledge drive and General McImmature getting shitcanned. I still haven’t watched the game yet–we had a monster storm here that just finished up a bit ago.

I was at 40,000ft and I heard the result of the USA game. I had to wait for a Moroccan taxi driver to tell me that England had won, though

Was that actually Algerias game plan, force a nil tie and go into penalty kicks to possibly make up the goal differential ?
