When you make a challenge on [Chess.com](http://Chess.com), click “advanced options” and you’ll see a drop down called “I play as…” That’s where you set what color you get.

I’m there too. I got your challenge and made my first move there. If you want to continue playing there, we can do it. If you’d rather sign up over at [chess.com](http://chess.com), we can do that too (I’m in the process of signing up there). Just let me know.
I’ll be away from my computer most of the rest of the morning and early afternoon, but if you want to do some quick moves, about 3:00 - 4:00 is good, and early evening.

Gameknot is a small site that’s basically just a GUI. [Chess.com](http://Chess.com) has professional articles, videos, game databases, and forums.
More importantly, [chess.com](http://chess.com) has a conditional move option. So you if you decide to, say, trade queens, you can set it to make a move automatically after your opponent recaptures. I’ve done this when I have a mate in 5 so that it doesn’t take 10 days to finish a won game.
It’s useful any time your opponent has a more-or-less forced move, so that you can have it play your follow-up automatically and thereby save a day or two.

Gameknot has conditional moves too - much the same system.
In other news, **peekercpa** isn’t talking smack any more. (But [chess.com](http://chess.com) is down for maintenance.)

[Chess.com](http://Chess.com) just went down. They say they will be up by tommorrow morning. Hamlet and I each got three moves in.
This is already unfamiliar territory for me, openings wise. Philidor’s defense, which I know almost nothing about playing against. Looks like it will be a fun game.
I went to read up more on the opening online after Hamlet’s third move, and then I came back to [chess.com](http://chess.com) and it showed that it was down.

in other freaking news **peek** got his ass handed to him by a clearly superior player.
the only chance i had was if **mal** would have accepted a draw before the game started. man, i suck at chess. and a lot of other things as well. but gd it was fun, none the less.
i look forward to learning from my betters.

I did a google search on the moves to see what came up. I didn’t know before hand what name they had, lol. I know Ruy Lopez and the Sicilian, as far as names go but not a lot else.

A tool like the Chess Diagram Generator works by creating an image and a link to allow the opponent to make the next move and generate a new image and link combo.

Umm…we can just take the PGN. I’ve never seen a game that’s inappropriate for the internet, and you can’t learn how to improve until I tell you what you did wrong.
I should also mention that
Researching the opening while playing it [SIZE=“6”]is cheating[/SIZE]
You can’t say “We’re playing the Philidor Defense” and then go look it up. You either know it or you lose. No research while the game is in progress. Wait til it’s over, then look it up.

Really. Ok. I’ve played correspondence chess before, and we were allowed to look at the ECO and such as long as we weren’t using an engine to do analysis, which I wasn’t.
You should have made it clear what kind of rule set you were expecting us to use. You said earlier:

It’s not cheating to go look up what opening you’re playing. It is cheating to look up what to do next. Saying “Oh look, we’re playing the Philidor” is OK. Saying “Wikipedia says I should play Nf6 next” is definitely, definitely not OK.
ETA: Using an analysis board means setting up the position, either live or on the computer, and working out variations by yourself. Unassisted. With no engine help whatsoever. That’s OK. Everyone does that in correspondence chess. But you have to use your own brain and your own chessic sense (heh) to figure out what lines to play.
