Iād like someone to point this out to me after the game - I spent about an hour on move 29 and found ways for you to disrupt about 3 approaches to mate.
But Iād prefer it was _after_ the game.

No worries. Apparently the email notifications are quite delayed; when I went back to check the board about my missed mate, I found your latest move - itās over now.
I was honestly expecting something more like Ree7 at 30 from you, just to be troublesome; a4 actually made this quicker for us both.

Yeah, after that move I noticed that it was mate in 2.
I guess for the next round I will also set an account at GameKnot, Iām waiting for the next round to be set.

Can someone remind me what the format is for this tournament? Is it a league or a knockout thing?

Itās a swiss system with 5 rounds. If you won, youāll play other people that won. Then in the third round, people that have 2 points will play other 2-pointers. The 1s will play 1s, and the 0s will play 0s. So while youāre theoretically paired against a skilled opponent the first time around, the schedule adjusts itself to your performance. In theory, if you lose, you get an easier opponent next time. As soon as board 1 finishes, I think thatās the end of round 1. It only took a weekā¦cool. Iāll have to wait til I get home to do the next pairing.
I say we remove MindWanderer and Cort from the tournament all together. It keeps us at an even # of players and I donāt have to figure out how to do byes.

**Ed** -\*\*Autolycus \*\*is only on move 11 and is still very unclear so we still have to wait on that. Assuming **Edward the Head** wins, Rd 2 will be:
GIGOBuster 1 Maserschmidt 1
Chessic Sense 1 Edward the Head 1
Hamlet 1 Malacandra 1
fubbleskag 1 Oredigger77 0
peekercpa 0 Garygnu 0
Autolycus 0 Ivan Astikov 0
Two players dropping out kinda threw a wrench into the works, because now weāve got 7 winners and only 5 losers. I donāt know if a bye win counts as a real win and thus you get ranked in the winners, or a fake win and thus you get paired in a sub-1-point bracket. But I said āto hell with itā and just made the bracket as if they count as real wins. Itās not like thereās money on this thing. If Iām wrong, you can have my cat.
But if GIGO and Maser want to get a game started, thereās a 50% chance itāll count (i.e. if \*\*Edward \*\*wins.) Same goes for everyone but **Ivan** and me.

I see [Andor Lilienthal](http://www.chess.com/article/view/andor-lilienthal---the-last-chess-romantic) just died at the very ripe old age of 99. He beat several World Champions (and ex- ) in his career, including Emanuel Lasker, who lifted the title back in the 1890s!
