Good grief, Winston’s back. I’m almost impressed, the man’s apparently immortal. And bloody Banksie took Epsom. Any bets on which cabinet position Key will give him? Good to see the Greens do so well, that’s been the only bright bit of this morning. ---

I was rather hoping to see a Nats/Green coalition… (Greens to give the Nats some heart… and Nats to give the Greens some brains)… but it looks like the Nats have squeaked a majority with just the Maori party and the lone ACT and United MPs. ---

Probably someone called David (there’s three of them vying at the moment). I wish it were Stuart Nash - we’ve lost him in the Bay because the party didn’t value him enough. The Nats dropped a few thousand votes, Nash picked up a few thou - even during an election where the overall voter turnout was very low - but not quite enough to take what was a safe National seat last time. We were lucky in the last election, we ended up with two local MP’s, one electorate and one list, from opposing parties who were both very competent. ---

There are only two David’s left now - Parker’s dropped out. I think Cunliffe will win it, but I’d prefer Shearer. I too am a bit sad for Nash to go, I think only he and Carmel Sepuloni managed to narrow the majorities for Labour in any of the National-held electorates. ---

Whatever happened to Lianne Dalziel? I remember a newspaper/magazine article a number of years ago in which she was talked up as ‘future leadership material’? ---
