It was held over a weekend, and by Sunday morning, you had a group of 16-year-olds who were exhausted, moderately smelly, and really sick of talking about faith and other serious topics. The youth minister (who was, at that time, still definitely a member of the “happy hippy Vatican II Catholics”) started out the morning devotional by playing Stevens’ recording of that song. 😛 ---

Reviving this thread because I just turned on HBO and they’re broadcasting the 2013 awards show. Rush just gave a stupid gibberish speech that they clearly believed was oh-so-clever, but I want to talk about the band that played between Rush’s speech and performance. It looked like a joke band of the Spinal Tap variety. Who the hell was that and were they serious? ---

Just found a [review](http://www.grammy.com/blogs/set-list-bonus-2013-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-induction-ceremony) of the show that answered my question. It was Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, and Nick Raskulinecz mocking Rush’s 1970s costume choices. ---

I’ve been listening to one of the Classic Rock stations on XM lately and they’ve been talking up a contest to win tickets to the induction ceremony… in Brooklyn!? Why aren’t they inducted at the actual Hall of Fame in Cleveland? ---

I don’t think Geddy or Neil shared his sentiments, but I was impressed that they didn’t try to stop him, either. It was his one chance at that speech, and he gets to live with it now.
