2015-16 Barclays Premier League Thread

I accept full responsibility. It was a painful game to watch. I agree with the general consensus that the referee is a wanker.

The prayers of evert neutral helped.
This season England, next season the European Cup.

It. Could. Happen

How weird is it that Spurs are now in the role of the big bully club trying to crush the hopes of the plucky underdog?

Sorry if already asked…

Is a Leicester championship bigger than the Blackburn top finish in the early 90s? If yes, has there been a bigger upset to the league hierarchy going back through the Football League?

Blackburn’s title was certainly quite something for a historically smaller club, but in the early 90s they were quite well-off thanks to a local tycoon, and the financial gap to the powerhouse clubs like Man U wasn’t as big back then. The money from newly structured Premier League TV and sponsorship deals had only just begun to flow, and not on the scale that it does now.

Apart from Blackburn, there was some discussion earlier in the thread about the magnitude of Leicester’s potential achievement. Other league wins that might be on the same level include Nottingham Forest’s title straight after winning promotion in 1977/78, and Ipswich Town’s in their very first season in the top flight, in 1961/62.

Americans behind restructuring of Champions League., the Champions League does not need Leicester.

:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Asshole.

Fuck that guy. Attitudes like that devalue the whole sport. You earn a spot in the CL. It’s not an all star game. Man U and Chealsea want into the CL win some games!

Sideways and upside down!

Wholeheartedly agree. What a terrible misunderstanding of the sport and league structure.

I for one would much rather see a system of relegation and promotion come to the U.S. than see the closed system get imported to Europe.

Of course people would find an American to scapegoat and try to blame for the attitude (if I was really cynical, I’d say the clubs planned it that way). This is something the big 5 English clubs are pushing, not some random American billionaires. The American guy just said it out loud what the heads of Chelsea, ManU, ManCity, Arsenal, and Liverpool were (and continue to try) hashing out.

Interestingly, though, the clubs don’t seem to be in favour of it, at least not publicly. As best I can tell, the big clubs are more afraid in the long-term of losing Premier League revenue to Continental clubs than they are of occasionally losing Championship League revenue to Leicester City.

ETA: here’s one analysis that thinks the big clubs are indeed hiding their intentions.

Having lost the last three games in a row, for the first time in nearly five years, the wheels are starting to come off Arsenal’s season. So today’s North London Derby against Spurs is massive - let’s hope the dodgy lasagne has been prepared.

And since it’s derby day, here’s an Arsenal v Spurs rap battle.

It would seem that a draw all but gives Leciester the title. A win for the gooners all but gives Arsenal the title, and a win for Spurs puts Tottenham in the driver seat.

The most important league match of the year?

As has been said Blackburn were the big spending club of that era. They were funded by an early(albeit local) equivalent of Roman Abramovich. I don’t know what the odds were of Blackburn winning the title at the beginning of that season but if they weren’t bookies favourites they were close to being favourites. In fact Blackburn probably under-performed during that era.

So, Danny Welbeck is good at football. :frowning:

Harry kane is a golden god!!!

Harry Kane punishes his old club.

This feels like the darkest hour of Arsene Wenger’s twenty-year reign. The dream is over. :frowning:

Please disregard my previous post, at least the second half of it.

Well good news for Leicester, it’s a 2-2 draw in the NLD.

That was a great game. I’m a little bit out of breath.

Arsenal might have won if Coq hadn’t gotten sent off.

But it’s a fair result in the end. And yes, more good news for the Foxes.
