No, you’ve got it backwards. John Bel Edwards is not a turning point in Louisiana, just a sign that even conservative Republicans can only stomach so much from the likes of Vitter.

The GOP will keep the Senate seat with any halfway decent candidate. Vitter was not a halfway decent candidate.
