They just held this over the weekend. Lots of great sand sculpting, and outrageous crowds. It didn’t win an award, which I think is a mistake. Its use of negative space and the cutouts alone make this a standout. On the back, there’s an almost photographic image of Lovecraft surrounded by tentacles. Some of them thought the portrait on the back was supposed to be Adolph Hitler. I think a lot of them missed that there were tentacles on the lower part of the Giant Head. (Although Pepper Mill, Nyarlathotep bless her, caught it right off the bat) ---

A friend was out there yesterday and posted some photos. I agree that the Cthulhu one was a standout. I also liked the griffin and the boy, and the elephant. ---
