He passed away in July, but I did want to note the passing of **Richard Taruskin** , an absolute giant in the field of musicology. He was a man dedicated to challenging conventional wisdom at every step, often turning it completely on its head. His enormous book _The Oxford History of Western Music_ is still a standard college text. > **[Remembering Richard Taruskin, a writer who made you care about 1,000 years of...](https://www.npr.org/sections/deceptivecadence/2022/07/14/1111497758/remembering-richard-taruskin-musicologist?t=1659692680974)** > > Hear the towering – and polarizing – author in conversation about his 4,000-page book, The Oxford History of Western Music. Anecdote: my wife once had a nice chat with him at a conference where they were sharing a table, not realizing who he was until she turned up to the next panel session and he was on it. 🤯 ---
