All I can say is that if there are best acting Oscars being handed out, I’m hoping that there is some acting coming. Every scene for the last half hour has just been some kind of chaotic fighting.

Why was there a plug for _The Little Mermaid_, coming out later this year, in the middle of the Oscars? Just because Disney owns ABC, and they can?

Also, the _whole_ point of this televised exercise is to promote the industry, including upcoming releases.

Two underdogs I’m rooting for (but don’t have a shot):

Best International Film - **Close**

Best Animated Short - **My Year of Dicks**

**The Whale** wins Best Makeup and Hairstyling, which may be an indication that the recent criticism of the movie, and concomitant drop in Brendan Fraser’s Best Actor chances, may have been exaggerated.

Had the two female leads come up to the Oscar stage and introduce the film’s trailer.

And they just did the same for a corporate promo for Warner.

They previewed several minutes of _The Little Mermaid_, introduced by two of the film’s stars.

And they just did a similar plug for Warner Bros., although not for a specific film.

Both studios are celebrating their 100th anniversaries.

Okay, I’m totally mystified why people are raving about EEAAO. It’s a nice underlying concept, but it’s just endless stupid chaotic fighting. How on earth are they giving out acting awards for this?

It’s been a minute, but if I remember correctly the emotion ramps up quite a bit in the second half.

As far as the underlying concept, you really just have to go with the flow. I don’t think it holds up under the slightest bit of scrutiny even when just being evaluated for internal consistency. And I say that as someone who really liked the movie.

You’re forgetting the googly-eyed rocks and the hot-dog fingers.

There is a lot of chaotic fighting, true, but there’s actually a lot of heart in the film, and Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu gave quite nuanced performances, I thought. Jamie Lee Curtis was fine, but I probably would have gone elsewhere with my personal Oscar choice.

It’s showing an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (95% Critics Score), so I guess the reason is most people don’t understand this movie as well as you do…

Because Jamie Lee Curtis played “Clair de Lune” on the piano with her toes. The Academy loves actors playing disabled people.
