Denny Laine. This is the first time a Death Pool contestant is someone I actually met. He played in this little pub in Old Orchard Beach, ME, performing The Beatles _Rubber Soul_ in it’s entirety (or maybe _Revolver_, I can’t remember). It was my 50th birthday. Denny and his band were playing there because the owner used to roadie for Paul McCartney and coincidentally was also an ex-student of my bandmate, so we had an in. I shared a word and a sip of a pint with him at the bar and I told him what a great set he had. He told me, and I quote, “Thanks, mate.” What a guy. RIP ---
