She started showing symptoms of dementia in her mid-80s, and it caught us by surprise because she was the first person on either side of our family who’d had issues with dementia. Her parents had died at ages 81 and 77, though, so a bit on the early side for being able to tell if they would have had it. Anyway, yeah, it’s definitely a concerning possibility. ---

nitpick: He didn’t end his career with the Mets, but he was on their very first roster. I wonder if anybody from that roster is still alive?
