December always reminds me to stop by to enter my death pool list. Except for the first two, I’m back to the politicians with ties to Arizona theme. > [@Baker](#): > > I remember the days of Quaddafi, that name would come in with half a dozen spellings. That of course is about transliteration from an entirely different alphabet where the sounds its letters represent don’t always match up nicely with the sounds represented by Roman letters, so it can be Qaddaffi or Ghadafi or who knows what. Same deal with Hanukah. In another forum, for obvious current events reasons, we were recently discussing transliterations from Russian and Ukrainian. As a math geek, I had to mention the all-time champ from that part of that world, the 19th-century Russian mathematician and statistician Chebyshev. His Wikipedia article [has a section that’s just about the many ways to transliterate his name](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pafnuty_Chebyshev#Transcription). (I’ve gone with the simplest one here.) ---

So I’m revising my list, adding them and subtracting two others Richard Dawkins Loudon Wainwright David Milch Linda Ronstadt Richard Dreyfuss Thomas Pynchon David Lodge Mark Lewisohn Joni Mitchell Bob Dylan Alternate 3: Bill Bradley Martina Navratilova Robert Caro [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/2023-sdmb-celebrity-death-pool/975831.md?page=2) [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/2023-sdmb-celebrity-death-pool/975831.md?page=4)
