Does that person serve out the full term or have a special election? I think the seat will remain Democratic, though. Does California often/ever have Republican senators? ---

The people who have already announced they are running for the seat are the power hitters - Schiff, Porter, Lee. Newsome has said he **won’t** nominate anyone who has announced. Nominating another black female to serve the rest of the term would blow Lee out of the water and alienate a huge chunk of people in this state, including me. But that is a discussion for another thread. ---

He’s 87 years old. Time to call it a career, one would think. I read somewhere else that Paul Simon is losing his hearing, so he can’t play concerts anymore. He sounded relieved about it, as if he needed a justification to quit the road. He’s 82, who needs an excuse at that age? ---
