2024 NBA Off-Season Thread

Could be he thinks the rebuild with Wembanyama might pay dividends soon.

Or he’s realized the NBA gods truly hate his bullshit and will never allow him a ring, and he’s decided to follow the churros and big ol’ women to San Anton’.

There’s not really a dominant team in need of help to go ring chase with right now. Anyone who might possibly fit the bill either has had him already and don’t want him back, or they simply have no use for him at all. Paul is certainly not a guy that’s going to put anyone over the top at this point in his career.

Isaiah Hartenstein (I probably butchered that) to OKC. Great pick up, OKC has a ridiculous team and enough trade assets to build a generational dynasty. Unless they completely fuck it up again like they did with their Durant/Westbrook/Harden/Ibaka team.

Klay Thompson to the Mavericks on a sign-and-trade deal.

Franz Wagner, who averaged about 20 PPG last year, has signed a 5-year, $224M contract extension to stay with Orlando.

Yup, the rookie max extension. It was pretty much guaranteed as you can argue he is one of the top three players in that draft.

Breaking: The Sacramento Kings are agreed on a sign-and-trade that will land DeMar DeRozan on a three-year $70 million plus deal, sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski with Tim Bontemps.

The Kings send Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte, two second-round picks and cash to the Chicago Bulls.

The group draws for the second In-Season Tournament, now called the Emirates NBA Cup, have been announced.

The Los Angeles Clippers are trading Russell Westbrook to the Utah Jazz. He’s expected to negotiate a buyout and sign with the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets will be his sixth team. After spending the first 11 years of his career in Oklahoma City, he’s never spent more than 2 years with any other team.

My Pacers newsletter, 8 Points 9 Seconds, proposed a mock trade involving (ONCE AGAIN) Myles Turner to the Lakers.

The media is obsessed with that idea.

A few days after being released by the Memphis Grizzlies, former MVP Derrick Rose has announced his retirement.

He’s probably one of the greatest “what might have been” stories in NBA history, and will surely become the first NBA MVP not to make it into the Hall of Fame.

I imagine he is a shoe in for the hall of fame. BTW i believe he asked to be released.

MVP is usually an automatic ticket to the HOF. Granted, he was never the same player after the injury, which was quite early in his career, but youngest MVP ever still carries quite a lot of weight.

Wolves and Knicks swap KAT for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. Minnesota also gets a conditional 2025 1st round pick. The Hornets are marginally involved for cap purposes.

Hall of Famer and advocate Dikembe Mutombo has died at 58 from brain cancer.

Remember this Dikembe Mutombo Geico commercial?

“NOT IN MY HOUSE! HA HA HA!”
