Just yesterday he announced (or it was released under his name) that he wouldn’t attend tomorrow’s Juneteenth game in Birmingham. It’s interesting that neither ESPN nor ESPN 2 is mentioning it. The St. Louis Cardinals game just ended, and they aren’t mentioning it on the postgame show, but CNN is in full obituary mode. ---

93 is a great run, and it wasn’t unexpected, but this makes me sad. Mays was not only one of the best baseball players, but one of the best _people_ ever. ---

The article mentions that with MLB’s integration of the Negro League stats into the general records earlier this month, he got ten more hits earned as a teenager in 1948 with the Birmingham Black Barons. Just in time. ---

The Negro Leagues were rapidly becoming irrelevant. The only reason why he got any Negro League stats was because MLB teams had to wait until he graduated high school before signing him. He only played home games with the Black Barons. ---

Gotta be weight related if not an accident. Reminds me of Ralphie May or John Pinette. I hope someone like Jorge Garcia or Gabriel Iglesias lose the weight. I know Jon Pinette slimmed down at the end, but it is often too late. ---

Reminds me of the death of Israel Kamakawiwoʻole (Somewhere over the Rainbow). He was huge, would check in/or be checked into the hospital due to weight related problems. His friends literally killed him with kindness by smuggling food into the hospital.
