A 6 pt deduction from the Canada women’s soccer team is pretty wild, IMO. Need to win every game and then get help. I think it’s basically kicking them out but still needing them to play games and giving them hope so they still try ---

Instead of showing our own sense of accountability, FIFA had to do it for/to us. As it is, we’ve done nothing to show that we actually are taking responsibility. ---

The circus acrobats were amazing. I was impressed that no one wiped out in the performances. It was pouring. The cancan dancers looked like they were dancing in the river with the water they were kicking up. The phantom tumbling down the runway was impressive. How he did not slip in the puddles? The Marie Antoinette heads were brilliant and very heavy metal! ---

There’s the German adjective “imposant” which means “imposing” and sounds funny because it’s a homonym to “im Po Sand”, which means “sand in the bum”. That’s what I always think of when watching beach volleyball (and when thinking about or drinking sex on the beach). ---

I’d bet a Hammond’s bar that the can-can dancers were **told** not to dance full-out. Not worth the risk of accident or worse. Watching men’s gymnastics; team USA is up. They show Dr. Jill Biden in the stands. Then Brody Malone fell off the high bar. Augh!\* Not only that, the same thing happened last time. The King and Queen of the Netherlands came to watch men’s gymnastics. Then one of their guys fell off the high bar. Maybe heads of state/government and their spouses should stay out of the stands. \*The commentator and I made almost the same “UNNNNNHHHHH!” sound.) ---

I missed the last supper reference. I’m not sure why a sexualized parody a religious event would be considered a part of the respectful and inclusive message of the Olympics. ---

I recorded the opening ceremony and watched it today. Most of my thoughts have already mean expressed by others, so I won’t repeat them. There is one thing that I must have missed, and didn’t feel like rewinding to find it. Was there some transition between the torch being carried through the streets of Paris and being passed on to the people who carried it to the cauldron? ---

Once all the athletes were gathered next to that runway (for lack of a better term), the guy with the torch came up through a trap door and passed the torch to Zidane, again. He passed it to Nadal who took it on a boat up the Seine with Serena Williams, Carl Lewis, and Nadia Comaneci. One of the things I like about the Olympics is that it’s a chance to recognize athletes who have been extraordinarily successful, but in sports that don’t get a lot of attention except for once every four years. Kinda drives me nuts when things like the torch relay showcase people who already get lots of attention. It’s not like Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams haven’t had their share of the spotlight. I was glad to see that the last part of the torch relay, from the boat to lightling the cauldron, was done by Frrench athletes that weren’t famous (at least, not to me). ---
