Tarlochen Thapar has died at age 90. Don’t recognize the name? He owned a convenience store and video store in Leonardo New Jersey. In 1989 he hired Kevin Smith to work in his store. A few years later he allowed Smith to make a film in the store after hours. That film was _Clerks._ Announced on Smith’s social media. ---

“Oldest living” implies other younger survivors are still out there (IMO). She was the _last_ survivor according to the article. _Viola Ford Fletcher, last known survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, has died._ ---

There are other survivors who have since passed away. She was the oldest survivor still living. ---

She’s a survivor because she survived the massacre. Similar to the way you can call someone a holocaust survivor even though they’ve now passed away.
