It’s that time again, some ski areas have started up their guns and a few western areas opened for limited use. Here in the east, K-Mart is scheduled to open on Nov 11, and a bunch will open the week after that with a White Ribbon of Death.

We have our Indy Pass again, and we bought a Frequent Skier card for Gore/Whiteface/Bellayre since we’ll be skiing with family there over XMas. No major changes to our plans this winter, but we’re going to try to stay healthy in the months of January/February to avoid a repeat of last season.

The biggest thing we might add is a short trip to the Eastern Provinces of Quebec for a few Indy Pass areas (Owlshead and Mont Sutton) and hitting Smuggler’s Notch, which was added to Indy this year.

Since I like to travel and love to ski, I’ve got two pretty ambitious ski trips lined up this upcoming season with two different ski clubs.

The first one is to Hakuba in Japan (which I’ve previously mentioned elsewhere), and the second one is to Les 3 Vallées in Meribel, France. I’ve also got a week planned for our annual trip to Sugarloaf in Maine. (These three trips are going to take a very large chunk of my vacation for the year.)

I’ll intersperse this with my typical weekend trips here in New England. My flyaway trips are both on the Epic pass, so that’s the only pass I got this year.

I hope weather and snow conditions are good, and also hope for an injury-free season—especially with a bunch of expensive trips on the line! (But I do have trip insurance for exactly this reason.)

We skied in Trois Vallees a few years ago, staying in Val Thorens which we loved. We skied all three valleys and each is wonderful, but it does take a bit of time to get across all of them. The village center in VT was great, we didn’t explore the towns in Meribel or Courcheval.

Just bought a pair of old-guy boots, the Atomic Nexus 120. It’s basically a rear entry that skis like a 4 buckle (I hope). I end up driving home in my boots (Ranger 120s) because I don’t want to rake the top of my foot with the cuff.

Hoping El Nino doesn’t skunk us in MT and BC. I have a full pass to Bridger and a limited pass to Big Sky, although it does include the tram. Heading to BC for at least the first week of March.

My GF just bought a pair of these, although hers are the Atomic Nexus 95 BOA women’s version. She has had foot issues and hopes this will help. She also bought new skis (Blizzard Black Pearls) since the bindings on her 20+ year old 😳 Völkl skis aren’t compatible with the new GripWalk boots.

Mount Rose got a little this week. I’m sure you had some there. It came up from that direction.

Ski Ward, a small local ski hill in Shrewsbury MA opened a slope for skiing today on snow made using their Latitude 90 system. And so it begins.
