Losing Dan Simmons is one that hurts. I’m currently working my way through _The Rise of Endymion_, the last of the four books in his Hyperion Cantos. I started reading the first book, _Hyperion_, because it is one of the most often recommended books on the major print science fiction subreddit, and was not disappointed. ---

It does help a lot if you spell the name correctly. I know Arabic-ish vowels are not consistent, but still … Then, there is the issue of how many points he is actually worth. The literal birthdate is not, so far, provided, just, 1961, so how that is calculated is uncertain. It is only one point, so it does not make that much of a difference in the standings. ---

If I recall the rule correctly, if an exact date is not available, or there are conflicting birth dates, the lower number of points is awarded. ---
