I remember my best friend’s birthday, the highest color I achieved in SRA in 3rd grade, the fact that I discovered Encyclopedia Brown & _Ballet Shoes_ that year. I remember that I learned how to build an electric circuit, that I had my least favorite teacher in all elementary school, and the various kids I sat next to, each time desks were moved. I remember how badly the attempt to introduce the metric system went in 3rd grade. I also remember quite a lot that happened in the second half of the second grade, as well, which since I turned 8 that year, was also when I was 8. Each kid in my class in 2nd grade had to read a chapter book to the class after lunch recess. I read _When Mrs. Coverlet was Away._ I don’t remember what book Scott Keisling read, but I remember his eyes wouldn’t stop watering, and he couldn’t finish. He said “My eyes get juicy when I read a lot.” I remember thinking he was going to get glasses, and he did, about 3 weeks later. Mottled gray plastic frames, with the double cross-piece over the nose. Cripes, who doesn’t have details like that burned in their head? I remember tons of very specific details from preschool. I remember the names and faces of the teachers, and most of the kids. Sheesh-- is that odd? ---
