I used to know / still know a lot of Chicago area comedians from around the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Today on social media they are universal with their praise and adoration for Dreesen. Many knew him personally. Whatever you thought of his act, he’s widely regarded as an important mentor to a generation of comics, as well as a really good guy. ---

Actor Paul Avery, who appeared in the 1978 _Superman_ movie, as well as the soap opera _All My Children_, has [died in a house fire](https://ew.com/all-my-children-actor-paul-avery-wife-sheila-killed-in-house-fire-12002197). Also killed was his wife, Sheila. No age or date of birth given. He wasn’t a hugely successful actor, but he has his own IMDb page, so I included him. ---

Not a true celebrity, but nonetheless famous because of his longevity. According to the article, he became the oldest living man in the US in December of 2024.
