Depends on how Embid and Lebron hold up injury wise, both are dice rolls at this point. I don’t think Maxey and Jalen Brown are championship caliber without them. I’d put my money on San Antonio or OKC still, simply due to being younger and less injury prone. It does make a lot more sense than any of the other options, like Miami who would have had their top three players all be power forwards if they got him. ---

I hope the Pistons have improved in the off season, but I haven’t seen any evidence of that. They completely blew the playoffs last year and that was a very good learning experience. Trying to decide what game to take my son to this year. I’m tempted to do the Sixers. We saw Lebron last year on the Lakers(Pistons won\*). Might want to see Stephen Curry play, though. ---

The NBA lowered to boom on the Clippers, stemming from the Kawhi Leonard salary cap circumvention investigation. Leonard essentially gets off with minimal punishment (a $700,000 fine). The Clippers, however, weren’t so lucky. Fined $30 million, and loss of first round drafts picks (2029, 2030, 2031, 2032 and 2033). Steve Ballmer paid $2 billion for the team in 2014. It’s worth $7.5B now, according to Forbes Magazine back in October 2025. What is a mere pittance? because those five draft picks mean the Clippers are done for the next decade. There was no other punishment that would even mildly inconvenience Ballmer. He did this because he wanted to win a championship, the NBA just made sure that won’t happen any time soon. ---

As I noted, according to Forbes Magazine, the Clippers are worth $7.5b. Ballmer paid $2b. This penalty damages the _team_, but not the _investment_. So Ballmer won’t care, and he’ll circumvent the punishment as much as possible. ---

What is the NBA supposed to do about the value of the team? Ballmer wanted to win so bad he cheated and spent millions, they just took away any chance he had at getting what he wanted. That was literally the only punishment that would remotely hurt. ---
