Not all movies are just “fucking entertainment” (…but most are, I guess). Anyway, they’re more entertaining when they’re shown the way they’re meant to be shown.

> Frankly, I wish more studios would put a sticker on the DVDs that clearly says “fullscreen” or “widescreen.” Most of the time it seems like the format info is in teeny-tiny print on the back somewhere.

Even when they have the sticker, there’s still those times when you’re standing in the store, and have a brainfart and can’t remember which is which. They need terms that aren’t so similar, and more clearly differentiate between the two formats. I suggest “Good” and “Bad.”

> Yeah, but it’s not like every widescreen movie is in the same aspect ratio. What will you do when you have something like Lord of the Rings?

They already have these – they just put small black bars at the top and bottom of the picture, so you get the movie’s original widescreen ratio.

Fullscreen sucks.

Yeah, I know. Still, if someone (like the person I quoted) doesn’t like black bars, buying a widescreen TV wouldn’t really solve their problem.

So, people really dislike the black bars that much? Why? Trueness to an original thought is one thing, but I guess I just don’t understand someone hating the black bars. Do these same people hate subtitled movies?

They need to make TV’s with an auto V-hold that takes out the bars for those that hate them. Maybe then we can stop the madness.
