In all of this talk of how ridiculous and convoluted the primary process is, with all of the talk of how superdelegates might just decide who _they_ want to run with no regard for how the people actually voted, I saw this news item - 21-year-old Supedelegate to brunch with Chelsea Clinton The articles goes on in an “aw shucks” tone, as though this isn’t a perfect microcosm of how american democracy is dead, to explain that > [@Knight Rider or the AP or whatever](#): > > He is only 21 years old — he has never voted in a presidential election because he turned 18 after Election Day in 2004. > > Since the race between New York Sen. Click the link and then delete two of the “/” marks, and it works fine. I don’t see what the OP’s getting all riled up about. He’s a superdelegate because he ran for a spot on the DNC in his homestate and won. I certainly doubt he would’ve emerged victorious in such a contest if he was a vapid, apolitical, beer-chugging party boy. Some political junkies become wonky at a really young age. He should be penalized for being particularly passionate and motivated to get involved in the process? ---

I saw him interviewed last night on CNN. He is a dedicated Democratic party member who ran for the DNC in Wisconsin when he was 17. He has walked precincts and manned phones for the Democrats for four years, and now he is trying to choose the candidate who will be best for the party. He seemed intelligent, sincere, and committed to me, and unlikely to be swayed by all of the attention he is receiving. Of all the scary things about the U.S. political system, [Jason Rae](http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/12/earlyshow/main3820908.shtml) is at the very bottom of my list. ---

Shouldn’t all Superdelagagtes be at least 40 years old and firmly entrenched in the party machinery? I mean this 21-year old probably doesn’t even owe anybody any political favors…yet What can he possibly know about…stuff.
