I seem to recall (perhaps in _Pumping Iron_) where he deliberately told a competitor the wrong date for an upcoming contest so the other guy either wouldn’t be ready or perhaps missed it altogether. Your point is well taken and having one’s past mistakes or errors in judgement come back to haunt them is part of what happens when one enters public life. My assumption is that as he matured he gave up such shenanigans, and given his high profile I imagine it would have come to light by now if he hadn’t. ---

Not too sure exactly what we’re doing here. But for my dollar there was no thread with more ":eek: " in it than[this one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=434266). Starts out as your subtley crazy, “let’s poke the nut” sort of thread. Ends up as a “Oh my God, we’re sorry for needling you now. Please please please seek immediate mental health aid. Even the athiest among us are praying for you,” sort of thread. ---

Better to pick from a decent number of candidates that include a few nutjobs, then pick the lesser of two evils that are the usual suspects.
