Am I the only bothered at the idea of a ‘stealth’ missile? C’mon, that thing was an ordinary shaped missile not some super high tech thing with weird baffles and angles to fool radar. Plus the damn thing has a rocket engine burning! All those satellites they keep repositioning, the 3-D infrared images they got of the Chinese embassy… and none of that is of any use in finding a blazingly hot item up in the sky, travelling in a straight line for an hour so far??? Sheesh. ---

Hit the wrong key… My prediction: Jack will shout at Edgar, and then Edgar will save the day! He’ll find some backdoor routine that disarms the nuclear warhead – or maybe that orders it to self-destruct – and that will be that. And I bet TerroristChick turns out to be Marwan’s daughter or something like that, and gets used against him somehow. ---

BTW, I saw another thread linking to at least one article that said “24” just got renewed for 2 seasons. If this is the case, I wonder if we will see the same pattern of trying to make each season’s terror plot deadlier than the last: **Season 1** : Baddies try to kill Jack and family, and David Palmer. Motive: Free terrorist father and get revenge. **Season 2** : Baddies try to nuke L.A. and start a war with Three Middle Eastern Countries[sup]TM[/sup] **Season 3** : Baddies try to release the Exploding Head virus in 12 major U.S. cities and start a huge epidemic. **Season 4** : Kidnapping SecDef, Attempted meltdown of 104 nuclear reactors, shooting down Air Force 1 with president inside, and another try at a nuke attack on a major city. So… Will the “higher stakes” continue into Season 5? How “higher” can we make it? What’s your guess? - Terrorists steal a device that causes devastating earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and athlete’s foot? - Terrorists try to start an all-out nuclear war between U.S. and some other nuclear capable country? (Russia? North Korea? Britain?) - Terrorists steal a NASA rocket, reprogram it to fly to the asteroid belt, explode, and knock an asteroid into an orbit that will collide with the Earth in 24 years? Let’s hear it. What do you think, sirs? ---

The stakes don’t have to be higher, they just have to mix up the show a bit. For example they could make Jack a military advisor and go for more a team-oriented show next year. Something like a SEAL team. Or maybe send Jack into a foriegn country (if the show has the budget for it). Get out of the CTU focus entirely, and use CTU just as a backdrop, like ‘Q’ was in the bond movies. This whole “dark room full of monitors” and dialog about running ‘protocols’ all hour long is getting tiresome anyway. I am full up on protocols. I don’t want to hear the word again. “Hey Sherry, can you call my wife for me?” “Certainly. I will execute a telephone protocol.” ---

Oh, I quite agree – in fact, I think that their attempt to constantly make the stakes higher is part of the problem. This season we have so many unbelievable events and scenarios largely because they are trying to make the stakes so high. But that’s not going to stop the writers from doing it (although I hope they go back to a more reasonable plot and make it tighter) – so IF they do it… what will they have to do to top the “danger” level from this season? ---

I dunno about Tony dying. They’ve played with camera angles and lingering shots and stuff like that just to throw us off before. Then again, maybe they’re counting on us to notice that, so they really will kill him, just to mindfuck us. ---

One wonders what would REALLY happen to an America that had been subjected, in the span of four years, to the attempted assassination of a Presidential candidate and then President, the bombing of a jetliner, whatever else I missed in seasons one and two, the Motaba Virus in the hotel, a few nuclear reactor meltdowns, Air Force One getting shot down, and the nuke now flying at “the coasts” (they can’t even tell which one?). You’d think that by this point, CTU and the government would have the nearly unlimited powers to do anything they wanted for national security and everybody would be walking around with bar codes on their heads. ---

To be fair, each season has more than a year inbetween them in “24 time” (now that I think about it, if you average out the extra time that is supposed to take place inbetween seasons with travel times DURING the seasons, it IS real time!). So if all this happened over the course of maybe SEVEN years, not four. I mean, who remembers that far back? 😃 ---
