And I only cringe at your second suggestion because it is within the realm of possibilities in the 24 universe. ---

Lynn is the martinet he is because he was beaten up at school for “having a girl’s name”. He views the keycard as having the same importance as Lunch Money. It is his horrible, horrible secret that because of his name, he was too sissy to keep his precious keycard. It has driven him insane. ---

Only Jack is allowed to go Rouge without becoming a villian. 2.) Not to mention the fate of President Talks to Bunnies, the fate of Ensign Ro from Season 2, the Fate of Beeh-rooz from season 4, not to mention that whole subplot about the evil defense contractor from season 4. ---

I’m thinking that the next thing that’s going to happen to Lynn is that he’s going to be asked to surrender his keycard. Oops. Don’t have it. Who does? Some scumbag who’s dating my sister. Does that get me in trouble? Then Chloe will use one of her magical database lookups to instantly find out who the boyfriend is, and it’ll turn out he is connected in some way. So Lynn suddenly find himself a field agent, having to go and convince his sister that her boyfriend is a bad dude and help him set up some sort of sting to find the people he’s connected to. Then Lynn will die a horrible death. Jack will probably be forced to shoot him in the back of the head or something. ---
