How many times have we seen this episode before? Jack tortures someone who professes innocence but finally reveals some information – just enough to lead to the next plot checkpoint (conveniently 15 minutes away), where bad guys inevitably await. Confrontation results, the tables are turned, Jack is taken prisoner, blah blah blah. Meanwhile back at CTU and the White House, various folks are being undermined and backstabbed by their colleagues. And as a previous poster pointed out . . . . . . next week it appears we get to start all over again! I hope it gets better in the next few weeks, 'cause right now the show _really_ needs Chloe to pick up a machine gun, and soon. ---

Unf. Yet more wanton character stupidity in place of actual plot. Hey, I know! We’re facing an unknown and unspecified Muslim threat; let’s shut out all our Muslim agents! It’ll be fun! Hey, I know! Our agents are being locked down and it’s creating tension; let’s not tell anyone the reason! It’ll be fun! Hey, I know! I’m being blackmailed by a complete arse but have my boss’s trust; better not tell him! It’ll be fun! Gah! Does _every_ plot element have to fundamentally rely on all the characters involved having some sort of mild autism and/or megalomania? Hell, I thought the Walid situation (the less-than-stellar acting notwithstanding) was one of the more interesting bits they’ve had, but that just fizzled, and in a stupid way, too. Hey, I know! Unworldly ingenu infiltrates “terrorist” ring and suddenly discovers awesome pick-pocketing moves. All for naught, though! Fun! I think I’m finally done with this program. This is just cack, and I haven’t even let myself _think_ about the idea that Jack’s secret heretofore unmentioned brother actually rules the world through a shadowy president-controlling cabal. And yeah, I know; why comment if I’ve got nothing nice to say, but I’ve spent four whole days of my life watching this show, and I’ve earned a whinge. 🙂 ---

The points raised in posts 41 & 47 I am pretty much in agreement with, and is the reason why I bailed out of the past two seasons sometime after the 6th eps or so. Is it so hard to write a tight taut thriller without the constant instant (or delayed) replays, and without the Idiot Plots? I was really hoping they’d switch the modus operandi of the show this year-specifically, have Jack escape from Chinese prison and then follow some leads in the Orient (perhaps the North Koreans as the bad guys this time), and do a location shoot in Tokyo or something. Expensive yes but it’s better than the Same Old Crap. Turn the show’s premise around 90 degrees or something-_anything._ ---

With regards to the show, I think there may be a mole, a resignation, and a woefully uninformed CTU as to the nature and extent of the terrorist threat (There was one suitcase nuke unaccounted for. Someone in inventory decided _one. five. What’s the difference_). Can someone explain to me why the broker for evil engineers is staying in LA? He’s on a cell phone and the internet. I’d be doing some business one the road, away from the mushrooms that are set to appear. ---

So we didn’t see Dr. Bashir (Assad) this time. Is he done for the show? I hope not. He and Jack actually worked well together. They could commission him as a CTU agent – a replacement for Curtis.
