So you’ll be denying unanimous consent and putting holds on routine business like Tuberville did two years ago, right?
…right?

I just said on another board that Sen. Booker quite likely showed up prepared, and his own Depends are even fuller than 8647’s, but for the right reasons.
As I write this, we’re pushing 24 hours.
Yup, going on 24 hours now. Easily beating Strom Thurman’s record. Almost 92,000 Now over 100,000 people tuned in live at YouTube.
Thank you Senator Cory Booker. Thank you Senator Murphy for sticking around for the entire speech.
Fighting tyranny involves small acts and large. This act is in between. That’s ok. New Jersey residents should reach out to the Senator’s office and give him a high five.
The technology has existed for well over 60 years, and yes it is put to use.
C’mon, people. I understand that the rules allow him turn the floor over to someone else (a Democrat, of course) while he leaves the room for a few minutes.
He is not allowed to leave the floor, even when someone else is speaking.
Gotta redeem the dream!
I think this is a good thing considering where we are. It’s almost entirely symbolic, but symbols can be important, and symbols are one of the few things Democrats can actually do right now. So use what little power you have right now.
Symbols like this can lead to other symbols and other acts of resistance.
I just read this on the NPR site:
His aides set up a bucket in the cloakroom so he could keep a foot on the Senate floor if he needed to relieve himself.

This is definitely Booker laying down the tracks for a run in 2028, but I can’t deny his endurance and words. Very admirable, and particularly iconic since it broke the record of a Senator who spoke against civil rights in the 50s for 24 hours.
… who did time-filler bullshit like read names from the phone book
Yup. Even with this man’s sleep deprivation he’s still putting out actual words that I hope will resonate with Americans, and is completely coherent. As someone who’s had to pull 24h shifts once or twice, I wouldn’t be safe to drive let alone do public speaking in such a powerful way.
Yeah every time I tuned in today he was saying something meaningful.
I’ve been watching again for the past 90 mins. Still great.
And, MINUTES after all that, the dems went right back to granting unanimous consent and approving trump nominees.
They didn’t learn a fucking thing.
I will. Yes, I wish and expect more from all the Dems, but I’m grateful when anyone speaks out against this nightmare. Thank you Sen. Booker!
Huh?
I tried Googling this. I couldn’t find what you are talking about.
Do you have a link?
Same. Drew blanks trying to find this.
I said this in some other thread recently. I rewatched the Hunger Games with my kids last month and it hit a lot different with me this time. The left needs a Mockingjay. A symbol, or an individual that inspires and stirs emotion in people, to get off their asses and fucking fight back. There’s very little passion and fight left in the resistance these days because there’s no unifying symbol or person to rally behind. Protesting in front of Tesla dealerships ain’t fighting for someone or something, it’s fighting against someone. That ain’t gonna cut it
And I think part of the problem with where we’re at right now is that everyone on the left is so divided that anytime a potential leader takes a step forward, we crucify them as being too progressive/moderate/female/law-and-order/gay/young/old/opportunistic/unpolished/inexperienced/failed/fill-in-the-blank. I’m not saying Cory Booker is Mockingjay material, but this is a start.
The right has been really good about coming up with things that inspire and rally people to the cause: Tea party symbolism, the gadsen flag, Trump, “MAGA,” etc. They’re really good at having a brand for their team and getting people excited about it. Inspiring them to get on board, wave a flag, wear a hat, be part of the team.
The left has no team, it needs a Mockingjay to help build one. It might take a tragic watershed moment for one to emerge.
Remind me? When has the left ever been a team?
There are worse choices out there.
As the size of the tent grows towards infinity, the cohesion provided by the tent approaches zero.
Right now, the tent is “anyone who doesn’t like Donald Trump”. Which seems like a good plan. But as soon as anyone says anything other than “fuck Trump” - like “here are some policy ideas I have” - this becomes a problem, because the tent is SO big and SO full of people with SUCH different views that someone who speaks with the authority of one who is in the tent will be ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGED by whatever proposal was made.
That’s why it feels like the Democrats have no direction.
