Impossible. Anyone who knows me wouldn’t be surprised by anything I like. I tried, but there’s nothing. I thought about posting, “Uncle Fucker” from the South Park movie, but that would not surprise them either. Instead I will post my latest favorite. On this messageboard, probably not much - I discuss music a lot and try to make clear that I am open to good music in all genres. My kids get mad/ give me that krinkled-nose look when they come down on a Sunday morning and instead of a fave like the Ramones, or Vampire Weekend, or even Thelonius Monk, I have minimalist classical (e.g. Music for 18 Musicians by Steve Reich), or the Tallis Scholars singing Gregorian Chants, or cool old harpsichord music on. “Daaaad?! What is this?!” 😉 ---

I have a lot of musical ‘personalities’ - classical musician, blues band bassist, etc. - but only a few people are aware that I am also a Madrigal singer. One of my favorite works is Monteverdi’s “Altri canti d’amor, tenero arciero” ---

I had a hard time with this one. It was difficult to see myself as others do, and know what might be unusual to like. I asked my little brother to suggest something, and his response was “I have known you since I have existed, and I have learned to expect just about anything.” But, after a bit of back and forth, we boiled it down to two songs. He was surprised that I loved, and forced him to listen to [Downtown](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGhoLcsr8GA) by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis . Good god, it uses every modern trick besides auto-tune, but it does it all so _well_, at the right time while mixing it with new ideas, Damn, that thing is perfect. The other one that makes him wonder if I might have been switched by aliens is [My Old School](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkm6E14Y-yI) by Steely Dan. The latter is the same thing, but from 1973. Working at Kroger was the catalyst for me to listen to enough Steely Dan to know what they did that worked for me, and didn’t.
