I think I read in an interview where Tina Fey claimed she got the phrase from her then-3-year-old daughter, so I guess it’s a toddler thing. ---

NBC has a [dictionary](http://www.nbc.com/30-rock/exclusives/dictionary/index.shtml#), but it’s fan submitted, and actually has both **Nerds** , and **Nertz**! ---

In the musical _CHICAGO_ Mama Morton (Queen Latifah in the movie) says “Nerts to that!” about something, so apparently it’s a flapper era slang. ---
