Have never seen those two. What else do you like?
Trailer Park Boys (Canada)

Extras (UK)

I like 30 Rock too.
You’re welcome!
Oh, you were being sarcastic? There are plenty of messageboards on the internet on which everyone agrees with each other. This, thankfully, isn’t quite one of them yet.
It’s kind of a hard choice between Arrested Development and 30 Rock for me. Both shows have had me laughing out loud almost constantly. But now that I think about it some more, Tina Fey is enough to put 30 Rock just above AD on my list.
We just got done watching some episodes of 30 Rock on our 360+Netflix setup, too, Dob. Good stuff.
Jack: Good God, what does that man do in here?
Kenneth: I don’t know. I’ve never met Brian Williams, but his dressing room has to be cleaned up every morning between 11:00 and 11:30. That way, when Mr. Williams gets back from the liquor store, it’s nice and tidy.
*Arrested Development *is the best. *Always Sunny in Philadelphia *and *The Office * are pretty much tied at this point, just depends how they finish out their run. It would be tough for them to move in to that top spot though.
ETA: *30 Rock *is still definitely in my top 5-7 fwiw.
ETA,A: Let’s say *Reno 911 *and *30 Rock *round out the top 5, respectively
Bah, I completely forgot about Scrubs! Put them at 4 and bump Reno and Rock down a spot.
ETA: I’m assuming cartoons don’t count right? If so, *South Park *is king.
…I’m backing away from the keyboard now…
I think the writing on 30 Rock is - mostly - absolutely brilliant. They pack more jokes and ideas and notions and references in a half hour than some shows do in a season.
It’s a tightrope, though. If they take a wrong step it’s a long fall and a big splat. That sometimes happens.
Right now it’s my favorite.
I would take Extras, Conchords, and The Office much before 30 Rock. Ugly Betty, even.
Arrested Development seems to have more consistent and deeper jokes than 30 Rock (which I still love). The Office delves way too far into the drama pool at times and seems to forget that it’s primarily a comedy show (but I still love it as well). I’m currently in the process of re-watching the entire AD series and I’m still coming up on new jokes I don’t even vaguely remember the first viewing. It’s that kind of multi-layered comedy that I find very appealing and it makes the sitcom have an unbelievably high replay (rewatch?) value.
I just could not get past watching one episode of Flight of the Conchords. I think it was a combination of the people being damn near impossible to understand at times and the looooooooooooong songs that dragged on forever.
I have a theory that 30Rock is like evaporative cooling of a Bose-Einstein condensate.
The show has quietly phased out not one, but two of its leads: Rachel Dratch and Josh Girard. The jettisoning of the unfunny has left the core group closer to the absolute limit of hilarity.
Yes, that’s right. They swing for the fences, and they often connect, but sometimes they whiff spectacularly.

You know, I just can’t do 30 Rock. I’ve watched 10 episodes or so, and I really, really want to like it, but it’s just meh to me. My vote for best sitcom goes to Arrested Development. I’ve never witnessed a tighter, more clever, and consistently written show. The Office was great, and now is kind of running on fumes (in my opinion). It’s still funnier and more enjoyable than 30 Rock for me, but it’s felt off its peak game for a bit. It’s Almost Sunny in Philadelphia – kinda like The Office for me. First three seasons were really tight, then it’s been kinda going through the motions.
I think Tina Fey has a truly great, Mary Tyler Moore Show-level TV show in her and we will see it one day. 30 Rock isn’t it, but is a necessary step to achieving the eventual masterpiece she is capable of making.
And for a show that makes fun of sitcom catchphrases, 30 Rock sure seems to lean on them (“I want to go there!”).
Arrested Development is the funniest show I’ve ever seen on TV. I like *30 Rock, *but it is very traditional and not as funny. If we saw Selma Hayak’s titties, I’d change my mind.
Ahem, it’s “I want to go ***to ***there”.
Dy-no-mite!
I wonder why 30 Rock is so polarizing. Even though I’m usually watching it alone, it makes me cackle like a madman.
Based on that factor alone, my top sitcoms would have to be Arrested Development, then 30 Rock, then a tie between Scrubs and the Office. The latter two were so incredibly awesome in their first two seasons that I can forgive them for waning since then.
Besides, I really can’t think of a 5th. Andy Richter Controls the Universe, maybe? Oh wait, Curb Your Enthusiasm!
I like 30Rock a lot; I particularly remember an episode in which Jack D. destroys them all playing poker except for Kenneth - ‘he’s trying to read Kenneth’s thoughts but he doesn’t have any’. Alec Baldwin then launches into a frighteningly good but very subtle impression of Hannibal Lecter.
It has grown on me a little. I hate Tracy Morgan, but they have him in less and less. I sometimes smile or chuckle. It isn’t great, but it isn’t Everybody Love Raymond bad.
Huh. That one totally got by me. Do you know if it’s available On Demand? I’d like to check it out.
