One rather minor element that got on my nerves was Liz saying she’d been at NBC for seven years. Well, _30 Rock_ has been _showing_ her time at NBC for seven years, but in the first episode, wasn’t the premise that _The Girlie Show_ had been on for a while to some success, but its slipping ratings forced Liz to accept Tracey Jordan much against her will? Similarly (and I’m not entirely proud for knowing this off the top of my head), there was a moment late in the run of _Night Court_ where the characters discuss how long they’d been working at the arraignment court (that is to say, how long the individual actors had been working on the series), with Harry, Dan and Bull (the only original characters left at that point) each having ten years. Thing is, in the first episode Harry was new, but Dan and Bull had obviously been there for some time already. ---

They’ve been doing stuff like that for awhile. Like saying TGS is in whatever season 30 Rock is in, despite it having been on for several years before. My WAG is that for whatever reason they’re making a distinction between “The Girlie Show” and “TGS with Tracy Jordan”. Except of course when they aren’t. :smack: ---

I don’t remember them saying The Girlie Show was successful. I thought the ratings were just low- unless they said otherwise somewhere, you could conclude the show was foundering in its first season. ---

I just figured if\* The Girlie Show \*had never been at least somewhat successful, low ratings would just get it cancelled instead of the network trying to keep it going it by forcing an unwanted actor onto it. ---

I can understand that assumption, but I don’t think they ever actually said that was the case. The show is terrible, after all. ---

Well, I admit putting _The Girlie Show_ on the air was primarily an attempt to mitigate the damage done to the network after the programming disaster that was _Bitch Hunter_… ---

I think Jack just saw it as a ready made vehicle for Tracy Jordan. Reworking it would be probally be cheaper and more convenient that coming up with something from scratch. ---

Somewhere a network executive is probably thinking “black guy from NYC inherits a B&B in the southwest…” and not even realizing or caring where the idea came from. When you see “Chris Tucker and Cheech Marin in ‘Tortilla and Board’”, you’ll know where it came from.
