Thank you all again for your help.
MD2000, you’re quite right I did mean the Epson V370 and not a Canon.

The reason I’m looking at very much higher resolutions is that I believe Armyn has some Medium Format, 6’‘x4.5’’ Negs and possibly some Glass negs also.
My friend is also, in his own words, in need of a de-clutter. This along with the fact that he’s had some rolls processed but never printed, (v. odd!), should ease his mind and rejuvenate his memories.

I definitely heading down the road of quick low res copy first, working copy, followed by a high res scan, tariff and cleaning for his selected images.
Peter

Does the V370 scan 120 or large-format transparencies?

I ask because my scanner has a specific back-lighting panel for transparencies (negatives or positives)

From the video on the Epson website, the V370 work the same way, 3-inch strip of backlighting hidden under the removable white background inside of the lid. You insert the slides (4 at a time) in the plastic holder, but the negative strip carrier is not shown. It’s just not clear if it has a holder for two negative strips at a time or one. That would be a pain, scanning 5 negatives each time.

Assuming you can scan 4.5x6 transparencies by laying them on the glass, you would probably have to scan in 2 pieces and stitch using the supplied software.

Shameless plug here… I went to high school and played football with John, one of the owners of this company:

Yeah, I babysat a scanner for the good part of a month. The only thing that dampened my wife’s complaints over the time taken was that she got to see a number of my baby pictures. There’s a lot to be said for using commercial service if they have a bulk discount. Plus, I imagine they have fast equipment with more automated feed of 35mm film.

Also consider size. Scanning large 4x6" negatives you don’t need high resolution, generally. A 20Mp picture, say 4,000x5,000 px - 4000px at 300dpi is 13 inches. 150dpi is acceptable for most pictures, giving a 26-inch wide sharp picture. I’ve blown up 2.4Mp pictures to 11x14 (from a Fuji 4900Z early digital camera) with acceptable results. To get 4000x5000 on a 4x5 negative is only 1000dpi resolution.
